LED Desk Lamp UGC-Style Ad

A 23-second UGC-style ad for a folding LED desk lamp: a dark desk, the lamp switched on and adjusted, its clock face, then folded flat and carried.

The brief

Client: Portfolio sample

A desk lamp is bought to fix a condition rather than to own an object, and the condition is one the buyer is usually sitting in when they see the ad. That makes the opening frame the most important part of the whole thing: it has to look like the viewer’s own desk at eleven at night, not like a lighting product.

The product has three separate selling points — the light itself, a clock display in the base, and a body that folds flat — and short ads usually fail here by listing them. Each one had to be shown as something the presenter does, in an order that feels like a person using a lamp rather than a feature tour.

Lighting the ad was its own problem. The entire point is the difference the lamp makes, so the exposure has to hold a genuinely dim room at the start without turning it into an unwatchable black frame, and then let the room warm up without blowing out when the lamp comes on.

How we made it

It opens in near-darkness. A young man sits at a desk with an open book and a laptop, lit almost entirely by the screen, and speaks to camera. The room is legibly too dark to work in, which is the premise stated without a word of copy.

He reaches over and presses the control on the base, and the lamp comes on. The cut is held on the lamp rather than on him, so the change in the room is the event. The white folding arm and the bar of light are seen properly for the first time in this shot.

The next beat is adjustment: the arm is tilted and swung out over the open book, which shows the range of the joint and, incidentally, that the head can be aimed at the page rather than the face. A close-up on the base then catches the digital clock reading a time, which is how that feature gets introduced — noticed in passing, not announced.

Portability comes last and is demonstrated by packing up. The arm folds down flat against the base and the lamp goes into a bag on the desk, which is a more convincing argument for a folding design than any measurement.

The ad closes in a different room in warm daylight, with the presenter sitting at a tidy desk, hand resting on the lamp and the display lit. Ending somewhere other than where it started closes the loop on the opening frame: same lamp, different day, problem gone.

The video is AI-produced. The presenter, both rooms and the lamp are generated from one reference set, so the lamp keeps the same white finish, the same hinge and the same base display in a dark room and in daylight.
