The brief
Client: Portfolio sample
The brief was a lifestyle product video for an olive green bucket hat with a woven label and a black drawstring. Outdoor gear is bought on association as much as on specification — the buyer is picturing the trip, not the fabric weight — so the job was to put the hat somewhere that does the picturing for them.
A white-background photo actively works against that. It shows a hat. It says nothing about where the hat belongs, and in a category where every competitor has the same flat packshot, it gives a shopper no reason to choose.
Getting the alternative on camera means a location shoot: driving out to forest, waiting for the sun to come through the trees at the right angle, and packing in the props. Weather decides whether the day is usable, and if it is not, the whole cost repeats.
The clip also had to work without a model. Once a person is in frame, the video is about them; the brief here was to keep the product as the subject while still showing the world it lives in.
How we made it
The hat sits on a weathered log in a pine forest with low sun cutting through the trees behind it. Around it are the things that make the story readable in one glance: an enamel tin mug, a coiled rope and a folding knife with a wooden handle. Nothing in that set is decorative — each prop says "this is for being outside" faster than a line of copy could.
The camera drifts in slowly through the shot, with dust and pollen catching the backlight and a soft flare crossing the frame as it moves. The sun sits behind the hat rather than on it, which puts a rim of light along the brim and separates the olive fabric from the green of the forest.
The second half tightens onto the woven label on the front of the crown, held long enough to read, with the weave of the fabric and the stitching visible around it. Ending close on the label is what turns a mood piece into a product video — the viewer leaves knowing whose hat it was.
The video is AI-produced: no location, no travel and no waiting on the weather. Because the hat is generated in every shot, an editor checks that the colour, the brim shape and the label stay the same from the wide shot through to the close-up.
Worth knowing
This is a portfolio sample rather than a client order, so the production details show what a video like this takes on our current plans. At 20 seconds it fits within the Growth plan’s 30-second limit.
The brand name on the label is invented for this sample and is not a real product. On client work the label is built from your own artwork and checked against it before delivery. Some platforms ask advertisers to label realistic AI-generated video, and a clip like this may need that label.
This is one of our earlier samples and its master is 480×712, so it plays a little softer than the 720×1280 clips elsewhere on this page.
